Social Housing Project Albertstraat
De Noorderkempen | Beerse
The design restructures the relationship between street and building by removing cars from the façade zone and returning ground-level space to living, meeting, and greenery. Parking is compactly organized at the rear, freeing the street for an active plinth with visible entrances and collective functions such as bicycle storage and service areas. The rear parking zone is greened and socially controlled, separated from the public realm. The façade flirts with the building line: local setbacks create transitional spaces with greenery and solitary trees, softening the scale and bringing air into the paved environment. Entrance zones become generous arrival spaces, framed by tree canopies and gates. Entrances are bundled into three daylight-filled stairwells, ensuring clear legibility, social control, and a welcoming atmosphere. These also provide access to the ground-floor dwellings, ensuring that duplexes and ground-floor units are treated equally in terms of spatial quality, adaptability, and accessibility.
